Your Questions About Paintless Dent Repair Cost

David asks…

Auto body professionals please look Paintless dent repair….?

I just had my car hailed on and I have quite a few minor dents on my car (hood, trunk, roof) I was wondering how they are going to remove the liner from my roof withour hurting the panels on the inside and my whole interior… Also how they will do the rest… Average cost?? Thanks!

Brian Blanc answers:

They remove any side trim panels necessary to drop the headliner several inches to access the dents if possible—there are braces in the underside of the roof panel that may make it impossible to PDR some areas of the roof and it will have to be repaired with filler and repainted. Same thing with hood and trunk lid–if the dents are accessible, they can work them out from underneath or if not, have the hood and trunk lid repaired with conventional methods.Depending on how much damage and time to fix, PDR usually runs 75-200.00 per panel.

Lexus RX400h dent repair estimate?

http://i56.tinypic.com/ig9cnq.jpg

The dent is on the middle of the rear right door. The car is silver, no paint came off the car but some of the paint from the car that scuffed it is there.

About how much would it cost to get it fixed?
I’ve also heard about paintless dent repair, would that be okay to use?
EDIT: they said it’s going to cost around 700 because its a lexus.. am i getting ripped off?

Brian Blanc answers:

That may be under $100…

Thinking of buying a new car with hail damage how much should they take off?

Its a Honda Accord and it has quite a bit of hail damage. How much should I expect them to take off and how much should I ask for? It is priced at 28,000 without the hail damage taken into account. also will hail damage eventually rust? How much does it cost for the paintless dent repair? I have a cousin that does body repair I want to know how much to offer him to fix it?

Brian Blanc answers:

This is a nearly impossible question to answer, most insurance companies will total even a new car with hail damage, especially if all the panels have damage, rule of thumb: they should take off 10% for each body panel with damage (hood, left fender, right fender, roof, trunk lid doors etc) if you get a good deal and decide to buy it, take it to a body shop and get an estimate, make sure you tell the body shop you would be paying for this yourself (if they think its an insurance company paying, they inflate the time) when you get the estimate, look at the number of labor hours, and multiply by $25, then add the cost of parts (if any) this is what you should offer your cousin

Motorcycle Gas Tank Dent Repair?

Anyone know if this dent would be able to be repaired using paintless dent removal? If so, do you happen to have an estimate to the cost?

Brian Blanc answers:

No chance thats going to work. Your tank is creased and the only way to repair that is pulling it with a dent puller and bondo, or if you can find a specialty shop, they make a fitting that locks over your gas cap hole, and is pressurized with air, and it pops it out with high pressure. Even using that fitting, you still have creases, and will need to do filler repairs. Its probably cheaper to look on ebay or in a salvage yard for another tank.

I may not have it fixed I can’t afford the 28,000 for the ones that aren’t damaged I don’t want to be a sucker though and buy a car that isn’t worh as much as I paid because of the damage
28000 is for a not damaged one I want to know how much to ask for the damaged one, I wouldn’t ask about it if I wouldn’t want to drive it.
OK, I am not asking for your opinion on whether or not to buy the car, Hail damage is only cosmetic and the motor and insides aren’t touched. If I can get 10,000 off of it it would be worth it to me. It still looks ok so please no more why would you buy that comments. i am asking a question answer it!!!!!

Brian Blanc answers:

Most insurance companies write off hail damaged cars, its a huge repair to most flat panels, there insurance would have already paid them for the damage, so they will sell it for the difference, the rest is profit.
I recently done one in Australia and charged $3700, and I didn’t get every little dent.

$15000 sounds fair, but I bet they are expecting $25000
